I haven't checked through all the content yet, but the extras I've looked through so far are pretty exceptional - lots of cool behind the scenes stuff on the cars and stunts. As per the news below for August 19, all the releases appear to be the same as far as the extras content, so it's really just a question of whether you need 3D, or if you can't do Blu-ray yet and need a DVD. My copy arrived today, bundled with the Mad Max game, and is the standard Blu-ray release. Mad Max Fury Road has been released basically everywhere on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download.Sorry for the rant, I recently discovered the MM franchise and was blown away. MM1 was absolutely ground breaking and (aside from the French Connection) is a big inspiration behind almost all modern day action movies as well as post-apocalpytic sci-fi. Without MM1, there would be no MM2, nor inspired iconic imagery used in Back to the Future, Night Rider, Terminator 1 and 2, etc. Now, I feel like I've been singing MM2's praises to no end without properly acknowledging MM1. MM2 was great because not only was it an incredibly tight and well paced script, it took the next step from what was established in MM1. It just isn't imaginative nor does it build off anything established in the previous movie, it just replicates. That seemed pretty distinct to him, but now in MM3 there are entire clans that dress just like him, including the antagonist we're supposed to find physically imposing. In MM2, Humungus's right hand man really rocked the biker leather look with feathers. Showing off his shotgun doesn't have much of a point if he's about to turn it over.Īs an additional aside: note the clothing. (and Tina Turner/Master-Blaster are poor substitutes for the epicness of Humungus). The lack of dialogue yet detail in MM2 is one of its many highlights. And unlike in MM3, MM2 Max exposes his humanity a little bit in that scene he grimaces when antagonist removes the arrow and he looks relieved when antagonist leaves. It's not the tail between his legs exit our new Number Two does. Max has a tense stand off with him where he pulls an arrow out of his arm and then peacocks a bit. In the opening scene of that movie, we see a significant antagonist as a violent maniac and that Max is fearful but brave.

Compare this to Humungus's main dog in MM2. As an aside, I think this part was horribly miscast as well. The viewer no longer finds him as a threatening man.

THIS IS "THE MUSCLE" that Max has just humiliated in basically the opening scene.

At the same time it makes Max look soft (which he is not to have survived the wasteland) (even Han Solo shot some guy). Like I said before, this kills tension and lowers the danger of this world. Not shoot to kill a guy threatening you in a wasteland overrun by cannibals? This may be an even more egregious waste of ammo. A couple things are rare in this world mainly water, oil, and bullets. He even sent out an 8-year old onto the hood of a semi in a high speed desert chase to retrieve a shotgun shell. Remember the tension from MM2 whenever Max had to use ammunition. The waste of ammunition here is really notable and affects the tone of the movie. Wasting bullets for a mere show of force is unlike Max, he could've just brandished the weapon as he did with Gyro Captain in MM2. In that same scene Max flexes some muscle and shoots the story's right hand henchman ("The Muscle") in his feathered hat. The tone is goofy and slapstick in places (in the beginning for example: Max relinquishes a comical amount of weapons another problem I had with this scene was Max's willingness to relinquish all his weapons in the first place like that). I just think it suffers when compared to the 2 previous movies, it seems uninspired.

MM3 had good moments, definitely, and in terms of movie making, had all the necessary elements. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again.” And became a shell of a man, a burnt out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. "In the roar of an engine, he lost everything. I've heard some argue MM3 was the same plot as MM2. MM1 was about Max dying on the inside and how he became a revenge seeking mercenary and MM2 was where he regained his humanity. For me, the "Max-regains-his-humanity" is what RW was about.
